Chinese Teacher Exchange Program

Hilltop High School has had a Chinese teacher exchange program since 1992, by developing a partnership with a high school that is attached to Northeast Normal University in Changchun, China. Each year a Chinese teacher comes to teach for a year at this high school in Sweetwater Union High School District.

Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with the teachers who come is critical to the success of this program. Because the program has a different visiting teacher from China each year, the transition can be challenging for both the visiting teacher and the host school. For this reason, a video was produced to offer guidance to the incoming teachers. It is our hope that this video will aid teachers visiting from China in adapting to teaching American students in a California high school.

Benefits of a Mandarin Teacher Exchange Program

The benefits for the Chinese sister school (Northeast Normal University and its associated middle and high schools) include having teachers return to China with enriched English proficiency after a year in California. In the future, the University intends to send college students to California to study English and improve their conversational skills before they embark on their careers in China.
